Peak Oil Now Or Later?

Foreign Policy magazine blog "Passport" has a piece on the oh so present debate on peak oil. Is it here or will it be here somewhere in the future. The latter alternative is of course 100% sure. But is peak oil here? Yes, in five years according to a report discussed in Houston Chronicle. And that's not all. If the Vancouver Sun is correct peak oil will bring an "economic and social meltdown on a scale last experienced in the Great Depression—or perhaps when the Black Death swept across Europe in 1347."

Damn. I better learn how to make fire without matches and how to hunt for food with a bow and arrows.

Eight Stages of Genocide

Darfur: A genocide. Why? Read this.

"Genocide is a process that develops in eight stages that are predictable but not inexorable. At each stage, preventive measures can stop it. The later stages must be preceded by the earlier stages, though earlier stages continue to operate throughout the process."

1. Classification (we and them)
2. Symbolization (we give them a defining mark)
3. Dehumanization (they are not human)
4. Organisation (we must be organised to protect ourselves from them)
5. Polarisation (we must separate ourselves from them)
6. Preparation (we identify and single out all of them)
7. Extermination (we try to exterminate all of them)
8. Denial (we deny that we killed them, and if we did it's their own fault)

"We" can be anyone. "They" can be anyone. The rest of us have all the necessary information to stop the insanity. The rest of us can do something at every stage to stop "We" from killing "Them".

Made In China: Kidney, Liver, Cornea? (Part 4)

This is obviously not in the exact same vicinity as my earlier posts on organ harvesting in China. Falun Gong pracitioners are not mentioned below. However, BBC News claim that "[t]he sale of organs taken from executed prisoners appears to be thriving in China". An undercover investigation made by the BBC has found that "[o]rgans from death row inmates are sold to foreigners who need transplants".

We all know that the Chinese government is the long time World Champion (by far) when it comes to executing human beings. Last year at least 1,770 people were executed. According to BBC News Amnesty International believe that the true figures are "much higher". The rumours of organ harvesting on prisoners are by no means new.

The Chinese Foreign ministry denies the allegations saying that "the organs were not taken forcibly, but only with the express permission of the convict"(!). As if that would make all the difference in the world. In all fairness; it is of course possible. On the other hand, one can surely question, as BBC does, "whether prisoners really are free to make up their own minds on organ donation just before they are executed". The BBC correspondent says, with a slight understatement, that it "is not at all clear".

Apatiska flyktingbarn - på riktigt eller på låtsas?

Företrädare från flera riksdagspartier slaktar den pågående utredningen om apatiska flyktingbarn. Kristdemokraten Sven Brus säger enligt TT att utredningen är oanvändbar. Kalle Larsson, vänsterpartiet, karakteriserar den som "osaklig, lögnaktig och tendensiös".

Så vad är det utredaren Marie Hessle kommit fram till som är så huvudlöst? SVT:s samhällsmagasin Uppdrag granskning har skärskådat fakta i Hessles delrapport och dragit slutsatsen att hennes påståenden om att cirka 25% av de studerade barnen förgiftats eller simulerat apati inte stämmer.

Hela frågeställning huruvida barnen verkligen är apatiska eller inte är ju i sig väldigt märklig. Jag har som lekman självfallet ingen kunskap om det förekommit fall av vare sig förgiftning eller simulering. Egentligen är det för min del helt irrelevant. Varför?

a.) Om föräldrar valt att förgifta eller uppmana sina barn att simulera så är det i mitt tycke en bekräftelse på ett galet system som indirekt eller direkt leder människor till dylika handlingar.
b.) Om påståendena är falska, så är problematiken i sak den samma: otaliga människor söker sig till Sverige i jakt på ett bättre liv. Vi borde ge dem den möjligheten, innan deras barn blir apatiska - på riktigt.

9/11: Remembrance And Revisionism

So, yet another year has passed since that fateful day. Five years on some say that everything changed on the morning of September 11th 2001, others claim that not much changed at all. Nevertheless, roughly 3000 innocent people suffered a gruesome death on that morning. They should be remembered. As should all those killed and to be killed in other terrorist attacks. As should those killed and to be killed in the name of antiterrorism.

Most people adhere to the official truth saying that 9/11 was a terrorist attack executed by a group of young men from the network of networks called al-Qaeda. Others spend time finding cracks in the, as the prefer to call it, "official truth". They usually find the cracks (there are always cracks in every truth) and quickly end up in a completely different truth. "Arabs couldn't have been responsible. The plot was to advanced. Ergo: there must be Jews in the back somehow pulling the strings in order to reach that oh so elusive world domination thing!" "Bush and his staff is behind it all in order to attack Iraq and the Ummah in order to reach that oh so elusive world domination thing!" "The owner of World Trade Center is one of the prime beneficiaries of the attack, and thus must be behind it in one way or another!"

I mentioned the conspiracy theories in a previous post and there refused to link to any of them. BUT... One of the most well known 9/11 conspiracy theories, perhaps the most famous of all, is "Loose Change", a phenomenon on the Web. Now brace yourself: one of Sweden's major TV channels, privately owned TV4 (Channel 4) will broadcast Loose Change TONIGHT (that is tonight the 11th of September, Swedish time). Not the 10th or 12th of September 2006, but freakin' 11th of September 2006. How d'you like them apples?

But what if the attack did not unfold as we think it did? What if this event was manipulated to look as if we witnessed a terrorist attack? The documentary pose questions like; why were there no physical evidence that an airplane had hit the Pentagon? Where were the wings, the engines and the tail? How can fire from two airplanes destroy tre of the towers on World Trade Center when no previous skyscraper had collapsed by fire? And why did so many victims claim that they had heard explosions inside the buildings?"

I've seen Loose Change on the Web. It is very convincing. Very well executed. The producers build a solid case spurting out allegations, insinuations, accusations by the minute, backing it all up with footage of strange "puffs" on the World Trade Center facades, a black spot on a field in Pennsylvania, a too small hole in a Pentagon wall and so on. There's literally a wall of "evidence". But then (WARNING! Here's a spoiler for you) then it all falls apart in the end as fast as the the towers on 9/11: all of this, all the dead people, all the money spent on antiterrorism and war, all pre-training and planning by the terrorists, ALL OF IT... can be summarized down to virtually one thing: money! A group of very influential people wanted more of it. One might solemnly ask: wouldn't it be a hell of a lot easier to get more money and power without running airliners in to buildings in the most elaborate terrorist attack known to man? Wouldn't it be more or less just as complicated to invade Iraq, and gain from its wealth of oil, with or without 9/11?

The end of Loose Change is very similar to all those old spy movies and Bond flicks where The Villain can be persuaded not to destroy the world IF, but only if, his demands are met to the full. From his fantasy island built with unlimited resources and in posession of unearthly wealth and gadgetry, he will finally exclaim that "Yeeesss, aj vill nott distrojj ze earth vizz maj attomikk bomp IF you transfer FAJVHANDRED ZAAAUUUSAND AMERRIKAN DOLLARS TO MAJ SVISS BANK ACCAUNT!!!" I know, I know, the exchange rates were a bit different in those days, but you still get my point! Yes? No?

UNICEF+Barcelona=Sant!

Aftonbladet skriver idag om en mycket glädjande händelse. Barcelona har beslutat frångå sitt traditionella förbud mot reklam på klubbens vackra tröja. Från och med nu kommer man att ha UNICEF:s logga på matchtröjorna och dessutom ge 0,7% av klubbens intäkter till organisationen. Snacka om att föregå med gott exempel.

Perssons längtan efter Hägglunds ursäkt

Statsminister Göran Persson verkar fortfarande inte kunna gå vidare i livet utan en personlig ursäkt från Göran Hägglund. Göran P. har fått en ursäkt från Lars Leijonborg och nu bara MÅSTE Göran H. också be om ursäkt.

I Aftonbladet säger Göran P. att:

"Det är väl bra att det kommer fram en kristdemokrat och erkänner att han har gjort fel, men jag skulle gärna se även Göran Hägglund komma till mig och be om ursäkt för det som hänt. När det avslöjades att kd hade försökt placera en spion i våra led hörde jag inget av honom och inte heller nu. Den ryggraden hade i alla fall Lars Leijonborg. – Men snart kanske även måttet är rågat för Göran Hägglund så man kan få den där ursäkten."

Göran H. svär inte. Det gör man överhuvudtaget inte i politiken. Det låter illa. Det tycker jag också. Men ingen skulle bli lyckligare än jag om Göran H. besvarade Göran P:s begäran med att säga:

"ALDRIG I HELVETE!!!"

Made In China: Kidney, Liver, Cornea? (part 3)

Swedish public television news magazine "Aktuellt" had a lengthy report on organ harvesting in China this evening. No links are available at the moment. In addition to a brief presentation from the news anchor there was footage from a press conference in Stockholm with Canadian nationals David Matas and David Kilgour, responsible for the now well known report on the issue. The matter at hand is obviously interesting enough for Swedish public television.

9/11: Nirvana For Conspiracy Theorists

The coming Monday isn't any ordinary Monday. It will be five years going since 19 young men hi-jacked four airliners and turned them into giant suicide terrorism bombs killing several thousand innocent people of a wide range of ethnic, religious/non-religious background.

Ever since that day, people have been speculating on the perpetrators. Pure al-Qaida most of us would say (they have after all taken credit for it over and over again...). But for an increasing number of people, in and outside the U.S., there is something missing in the picture.

I can recommend a post in the Foreign Policy Magazines blog "Passport" by James Forsyth. Forsyth writes about a recent poll claiming "that 36 percent of Americans think it is likely that the federal government either knew of or was involved in the attacks" and that "[s]ixteen percent think it is likely that explosives played a role in bringing down the towers and 12 percent believe that the Pentagon was hit by a missile fired by the U.S. military."

I refuse to link to any of the nutcase homepages that are on the verge of drowning the internet with all of its conspiracies on 9/11, the Iraqi war and so on. The most stupid ones always ends up in blaiming the.... (Yes, you know what I'm referring to). There are theories that are convincing for a brief moment - some even very convincing with their detailed and meticously "researched" movies backing up the theory (where the hell do they get the time and money to produce them?). But in general, these are just warriors of the darkest wasteland of all (the internet). The polls described by Forsyth unfortunately signal that they have an increasing amount of readers and believers.

On Monday, the will go nuts once again. The internet will flood in an orgy of conspiracy theories. I wish that these people could find a healthier purpose in life.

Marita Ulvskog tappar koncepten

Svensk politiks största hycklerska, Marita Ulvskog, har spelat ut hela sitt register av indignation, chock och förfäran inför den förvisso ytterligt skandalösa smeten som vissa folkpartister gett upphov till.

Vid folkpartiets presskonferens igår tisdag så dristade sig Lars Leijonborg i sin mea culpa-framställan att påstå att socialdemokraterna med partisekreterare Ulvskog i spetsen utnyttjar skandalen i valrörelsen. Då blev Ulvskog, enligt Dagens Nyheter, skogstokig och uttryckte följande vanvettiga dumhet:

"Det är precis som om våldtäktsmannen säger om våldtäktsoffret att ”hon lockade mig, det är hennes fel”".

Kanske den sjukaste kommentaren någonsin av en ledande partipolitiker i svensk samtidshistoria.

För en påminnelse om nutida sosseskandaler rekommenderar jag PJ Anders Linders korta sammanställning i Svenska Dagbladet i slutet av augusti. Den behöver Ulvskog inte läsa. Hon vet allt detta så väl och det är en förklaring till hennes hycklerier idag.

Made In China: Kidney, Liver, Cornea? (part 2)

The rumours of an organised trade in human organs in China are getting more and more intense. In a previous post I wrote a couple of lines about the hair raising allegations made against the Chinese regime saying that Falung Gong practitioners are kept in concentration camps where they are subsequently killed - AFTER their organs have been removed.

Obviously the international reaction was catious. It all sounded so bizarre, even for China. It's a well known fact that there are facts that make China an not so unlikely country where this type of "unbelievable" stories can actually be true (read more in my earlier post).

But after a report, written by two Canadians (David Matas, human rights expert and David Kilgour, member of parliament), was published earlier this year, things have changed. They are now travelling the world informing governments and professionals of their findings and urging all to support further investigation.

Darfur In The Shadow Of Football and Political Scandal

I can't help feeling somewhat sad when I think about the world we live in. One perfect illustration is this the top news of the day in Sweden:

a.) Three members of the Swedish national football team has been sent home before a European Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein. They broke one of the team rules stating that no player is permitted to leave the hotel between supper and breakfast. Oh my, oh my... one of the tabloids facilitates a forum where readers can spell out their "worries" about the team. "Are you worried about the national squad? Yes or No."

b.) (and a little more understandable) The run up to the Swedish national election (Sept. 17th) is dominated by a "Watergate type" (according to media) of scandal. A couple of youngsters from the Liberal Party's Youth has done something extraordinary - in Swedish terms. They have been hacking the ruling social democratic party's computers since November last year. The social democratic elite is "disgusted", "chocked" and so on. Now the tabloids are working ferociously to find links to the Liberal Party elite. Rumours have it that a press secretary at the party's parliamental office knew about it all. Things will probably not stop there.

As a frightening contrast one can find only small notes in major Swedish newspapers on the fact that hell is breaking loose once again in Darfur. As you may know, the regime in Khartoum is trying its best to get rid of all international witnesses in order to complete the genocide. They are literally kicking out the African Union peacekeepers. The last UN resolution paving the way for an expanded international force to be sent to Darfur is a joke because it needs the regime in Khartoum to give it the green light(!). Have you ever heard anything weirder? The killers are supposed to "accept" external attempts to stop the violence and save lives. THAT is just about as cynical as anything can get!!! Please note that the US tried in vane to reach a deal to make it possible to implement the UN force in Darfur regardless of the opinion of the Khartoum regime.
Those damn imperialist war mongers of imbecille cowboy-minded self oriented cultureless tasteless Christian fundamentalist Islam hating Americans. They always try to interfere in others business...

Stina Dabrowski minns

TV-ikonen Stina Dabrowski har intervjuat drösvis med människor på TV. Nästan alla har varit välkända eller ökända. Många av intervjuerna har varit bra, riktigt bra till och med. Inte alla har velat avsluta intervjun med det småcharmiga jämfotahoppet. Carl Bildt vägrade. Margaret Thatcher likaså. Tror inte att Kadaffi gjorde det heller.

Stinas sämsta intervjuinsats någonsin drabbade som bekant moderatledaren Bo Lundgren i sluttampen av valrörelsen 2002. Personligen håller jag denna intervju som något av det mest bedrövliga skit jag någonsin sett på TV. Visst, Bo Lundgren gjorde inte sitt livs bästa framträdande. Hans och partiets insats överlag var usel. Moderaterna sjönk som en sten i mätningarna. Stina sänkte partiet och Lundgren lite till. Jag blev både ledsen och förbannad. Ledsen för att jag gillar Stina, förbannad för hennes obegripligt dåliga insats.

Nu har Stina skrivit en bok om sina intervjuer. I ett utdrag som publicerats på Expressens hemsida förklarar Stina att intervjun med Bo Lundgren var en dålig intervju, men inte mycket mer:

"Jag fick mycket kritik efter intervjun med Bo Lundgren, för att jag blivit irriterad så att det syntes. Nu beställer jag en kopia av intervjun för att titta hur det ser ut. Jag ser inga förväntade skandalutbrott, men det är ingen bra intervju. Det syns att jag är frustrerad."

Hennes frustration berodde enligt henne själv på kollegan Erik ”Figge” Fichtelius. Han var dum mot henne och tog för stort utrymme. Lagom till intervjun med Lundgren är Stina och Figge rejält purkna:

"I intervjun med Bo Lundgren blir tonen snabbt lite taggig, både jag och Erik Fichtelius försöker gå in och bryta när vi tycker att Lundgren börjar hålla tal istället för att svara på frågor. Bo Lundgren talar mycket om att de lågavlönade ska få det bättre, vilket föranleder mig att fråga:

Stina: När du talar så låter det som om ni är ett parti som framför allt vill göra det bättre för lågt avlönade människor?

BL: Ja, det har du alldeles rätt i.

Stina: Moderaterna, det nya låglönepartiet?

BL: Nej, inte låglöneparti, vi ska inte ha låga löner i Sverige, vi ska ha bra löner.

Stina: Nej, men för de lågavlönade menar jag.

BL: Ja, vi är ett parti för människor som har låga och normala inkomster och som betalar för mycket i skatt idag.

Stina: Margaret Thatcher lyckades ju höja standarden för dem som hade det sämst, men de rika blev också väldigt mycket rikare. Hur ser du på det?

BL: Jag tycker att man ska ha en balanserad utveckling. Alltså det finns de som säger...

Stina: Men hur ser du på just det?

BL: Vad som hände i Storbritannien?

Stina: Man kan ju tycka att det är okej. Om man lyckas göra det bättre för dem som har det allra sämst, är det okej att de som har mycket får mycket mer då?

BL: Alltså i Sverige diskuterar vi väldigt ofta bara fördelning av det som finns. Vi diskuterar väldigt sällan, vilket vi pratade om faktiskt i början av programmet, hur man skapar nya resurser så att det blir ännu bättre. Hade Sverige varit en delstat i USA idag så skulle Sverige ha varit den fattigaste av de 51 delstaterna.

Stina: Men om, men om...

BL: Men Stina, detta är ju ändå väsentligt därför att...

Stina: Jo, men det är väsentligt att få svar på frågor som man ställer också.

BL: Jo, men självklart.

Stina: Men vad är då ditt svar?

BL: Mitt svar är alltså att vi lägger ju skatteförslag som innebär att när inkomstskatten förändras så finns fördelningsprofilen kvar, det vill säga att det finns ingen skillnad där. Men det är ju det väsentliga."

Stina själv ser inte att hennes insats är under all kritik. Man kan utan problem se mönster av politiskt ställningstagande i hennes hånfulla ton mot Lundgren. Därmed inte sagt att så var fallet. Enligt Stina själv låg problematiken istället hos Lundgren:

”Intervjun illustrerar problemet med den politiska journalistiken: hur undviker man politikernas malande och journalisternas tjat? Hur gör man den politiska intervjun begriplig och intressant?"

Ett självfallet svar är förstås: GÖR INTE SOM DU GJORDE I INTERVJUN MED BO LUNDGREN!!!

Stina har dock ett rätt i utdraget av boken: hennes kritik mot kollegan Fichtelius i ett specifikt fall. Några månader efter valet 2002 framkom, som bekant, att Figge och statsminister Persson under flera månader träffats i hemlighet för att göra inspelningar till en dokumentär om statsministern. Mötena blev allt mer förtroliga. Luncherna ledde till slut till att statsministern inbjöd journalisten till en fest. Journalisten tackade otroligt nog ja!!!

Stina menar att ”risken är stor att det utvecklas en relation som är lite för nära under dokumentärfilmandet”(!?) Nähä?!
