How to Dismantle a Terrorist Organization
Yet another interesting, extraordinary even, article from The Atlantic.
A man called Kevin Fulton was both an IRA-terrorist and a British spy at the same time. In "[t]he untold story of how British intelligence infiltrated and undermined the IRA" Fulton explains that:
"You cannot pretend to be a terrorist, I had to be able to do the exact same thing as the IRA man next to me. Otherwise I wouldn't be there."
Thus;
"The Dirty War provides a model for how to dismantle a terrorist organization. The trick is to not mind killing, and expect dying."
And to not mind killing innocent people one might add. Terrorist organisations such as the IRA or all of the al-Qaeda offspring are certainly very hard to infiltrate, and extremely hard to break. But there will always be means unsuitable for reaching the end. And one can obviously become a monster when hunting for monsters.
